Abstract
The prognostic significance of the squamous cell carcinomas of the larynx and the hypopharynx have been evaluated to identify those features associated with aggressive biologic behavior according to the immunologic and histologic characteristics. For determining prognostic indicators, the authors performed immunohistochemical staining of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) in 32 cases of squamous cell carcinomas of the larynx and the hypopharynx.
The results were obtained as follows ¡¯.
1) The positive rate of EGFR expression was 96.6% and rate of EGFR overexpression was 50%.
2) There was no significant statistical correlation between EGFR expression and clinicopahtological parameters such as primary sites of tumor, primary tumor stage, nodal stage, distant metastasis, clinical staging and histopathological grade.
